songs of lamentation
Vaisnavas...we come together and lament the passing of a departed soul. We lament in songs of love to the abode of love Himself, Sri Krishna. The lament is not arising from our inability to discern the soul from matter, as Arjuna's was in the Gita. We understand full well the eternality of the soul. We are happy for that soul whose journey closens to Krishna. But still we lament bitterly. We lament bitterly in feelings of separation from a devotee, a devotee whose company and presence were a blessing on the earth, who reminded us of our Lord's love and the temporality of life on earth. We miss their fine words, actions and sentiments. We miss their gracious company. And thus we sing songs of love and in those songs we draw ourselves close and toward divine grace.
